PSG

Paris Saint-Germain will look to get back to winning ways when they welcome Lorient to the capital this Sunday evening.

The French heavyweights have endured a frustrating past few games, as they have lost four of their last six games in all competitions. They suffered their heaviest league loss since April 2019 when they were beaten 3-0 by Monaco in their last game just before the international break.

The result shed some light on the fickle nature of the Parisians’ defence, which also conceded three goals in their 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Despite their loss, they remain top of the Ligue 1 table and are leading second-placed Marseille by 12 points. After complaining about his side’s performance in their loss to Monaco, boss Mauricio Pochettino will welcome a return to the Parc des Princes where his side are unbeaten this Ligue 1 campaign (W13, D1).

PSG boasts a tight defence that has kept a clean sheet in 57% of their home league outings. And so they will go into this tie, confident of getting a result that will keep their large lead at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Pochettino will be without Juan Bernat, Abdou Diallo, Ander Herrera, Sergio Ramos and Layvin Kurzawa.

Possible PSG starting line-up

Keylor Navas; Achraf Hakimi, Marquinhos, Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes; Danilo Pereira, Leandro Paredes, Marco Verratti; Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi, Neymar.

Injured: Juan Bernat, Abdou Diallo, Ander Herrera, Sergio Ramos and Layvin Kurzawa

Lorient

Lorient will continue their quest for survival this Sunday when they travel to the capital to face PSG.

The visitors were thought to be dead and buried earlier this season after their poor start to the season. But they have turned their fortunes around in recent times as they come into this tie with two consecutive league wins away from home. They are unbeaten in their last three away league games too (W2, D1) and will look to continue their steady advance up the table.

While they remain embroiled in a relegation battle, as they are sitting in 16th place, one point ahead of 18th-placed St. Etienne, a run of five unbeaten Ligue 1 games from their last seven outings (W3, D2, L2) makes them favourites to beat the drop ahead of their relegation rivals.

After winning their last two Ligue 1 road trips, Lorient will now attempt to do something they haven’t done since December 2013, record three straight away wins in the top flight. Given that they have a win and a draw in their last two matches against PSG, and considering the hosts’ current form, an upset might not be so far-fetched.

Possible Lorient starting line-up

Matthieu Dreyer; Houboulang Mendes, Julien Laporte, Leo Petrot, Vincent Le Goff; Bonke Innocent; Dango Outtara, Laurent Abergel, Thomas Monconduit, Armand Laurienté; Ibrahima Kone.

Injured: Fabien Lemoine, Stephane Diarra

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
