Borussia Monchengladbach have edged out RB Leipzig 1-0, with Hannes Wolf scoring the only goal.

Leipzig had a great opportunity to open their account in the opening minutes before Yussef Poulsen fired his shot over the post after combining well with Marcel Sabitzer.

However, Gladbach established the lead at the hour mark after Hannes Wolf found the nets from the assist of Patrick Herrmann. Wolf, who is currently bound to Leipzig, joined Monchengladbach on a season-long loan earlier in the summer transfer window.

Alassane plea could have made it 2-0 before his shot hit the crossbar on a promising counter-attack.

Leipzig looked as if they weren’t recovered from their 5-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Champions League days ago.

Meanwhile, Marco Rose has now pulled off back to back impressive results including the 2-2 draw against Real Madrid in UCL. Gladbach are now fourth in the Bundesliga table with three wins in six appearances this season.

Despite the defeat, Leipzig are a place above Gladbach in the league table with only a defeat and a draw thus far in the competition this season.

Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann has stated that he was unhappy with the transitions his side undergoes during the matches.

“In the first half we were deeper than we planned but defended well. We were too open on the flanks and it took us too long to get into transitions.”

“After the loss to Man Utd, today’s loss isn’t nice. But there are worse things than losing to Gladbach. We have to look ahead and we have PSG at home on Wednesday.”
