Bayern are unhappy with the German midfielder’s high salary demands.

La Liga giants Real Madrid could be locked in a three-way battle with Barcelona and Manchester United to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka.

According to reports, the German midfielder has demanded a salary as high as star striker Robert Lewandowski, which has made the Bavarians unhappy.

Bayern have reportedly proposed an improved salary of around 12m euros, but Goretzka wants a whopping 20m euros per year. As it stands now, his contract runs out next summer.

Earlier, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn commented that Goretzka’s contract talks were progressing well and insisted that the German international would be paid accordingly.

Manchester United were said to have submitted a lucrative offer for the 26-year-old, with Spanish duo Barca and Real remaining in the contention.

The former Schalke man sealed his transfer to Allianz Arena in 2018 and has since been an integral part of the Bavarians. He also played a crucial role behind the club’s extraordinary run in the 19/20 season under Hansi Flick, achieving a sextuple.

Julian Nagelsmann, the new Bavarians manager, looks to be having high hopes on the German midfielder after heaping praise on him recently.

Nagelsmann on Goretzka: “Leon is an important player for us. I would be happy to work with him for many years,”

“I think very highly of him. He is one of the most dangerous midfielders in the world. Everyone likes to have him in their team.”

It remains to be seen whether the Bundesliga giants would accept Goretzka’s huge demands as Europe’s heavyweights are waiting on the wings to take advantage of his situation.
