Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2 Union Berlin: Andre Silva brace takes the hosts into the top four

Eintracht Frankfurt picked up a 5-2 win over Union Berlin in the Bundesliga earlier tonight.

The home side have been in excellent form since the turn of the year and it is no surprise that they managed to pick up all three points here. Only Bayern Munich have claimed more points than them in 2021.

Star striker Andre Silva opened the scoring for the home side 2 minutes into the game but Union Berlin managed you get back into the contest soon after through Max Kruse.

Silva has now scored five goals in four games against Union Berlin and the Portuguese international has amassed 21 goals for the season so far which is a record for Frankfurt at this stage of the campaign.

With the score 1-1 after the first 7 minutes, it was evident that tonight’s contest was going to be a goal-laden affair.

A bizarre own goal from Robert Andrich gave helped the home side the lead once again and Frankfurt doubled their advantage four minutes later through Filip Kostic. Andrich had a day to forget as he was responsible for two goals and he hit the crossbar with his effort as well. 

Andre Silva scored his second goal of the game on the 41st minute to give the home side an unassailable lead.

Kruse scored his second of the game at the stroke of half time but Timothy Chandler tapped in from close range to wrap up the scoring deep into injury time for the hosts.

Union Berlin will be disappointed to have scored just twice tonight. The visitors looked quite dangerous going forward and they enjoyed plenty of possession in the first half.

Frankfurt managed to put the brakes on the scoring in the second half and the home side defended better than they did in the first half.

 The win tonight takes Frankfurt up to fourth in the Bundesliga table with 47 points and Union Berlin are 7th with 38 points.
