The Manchester United attacker has reportedly turned down the chance to move to Lyon on the deadline day.

Ligue 1 outfit Lyon have reportedly contacted Manchester United about a loan move for Anthony Martial on the deadline day of the transfer window.

However, the French attacker turned down the chance in a bid to prove himself at Old Trafford.

The French club were keen on attacking reinforcements after the failed pursuit of Arsenal star Willian – who has now joined Corinthians – and Franck Ribery.

Martial was a youth product of Lyon before being captured by fellow French club Monaco, where his talent was brought into the limelight.

United sealed the transfer of Martial in 2015 and he has a contract running until 2024.

The 25-year-old suffered a dip in his performances last season mainly due to injuries and United were reportedly open to selling him in the transfer window.

In contrast, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaere stated that the French attacker is hungrier than ever and would give his best this season.

However, Martial still looks like a shadow of his former self after failing to make an impact in the opening games of the Premier League this season.

The French man’s chances could also wither following the much-anticipated transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is expected to be an upright starter.

Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani will make the United’s attack a stacked one, but it could also push Martial down the pecking order.
