Arsenal have agreed on a deal to sign the Colorado Rapids defender Auston Trusty.

According to a report on the club’s official website, the 23-year-old defender is set to stay with the Rapids until the end of the season, and he will join up with his new club in the summer.

The Gunners have agreed on a fee for the player, but they have decided to loan him back to Rapids for this season.

The 23-year-old has been outstanding for Colorado Rapids this season, and the 6ft 3in the centre back will help Arsenal tighten up at the back.

It is no secret that the Gunners need to improve defensively, and signing a talented young centre back could prove to be a wise move.

It remains to be seen whether Trusty can quickly adapt to the Premier League and make an immediate impact at Arsenal next season.

The 23-year-old has done well for the American club, but the move to the Premier League will be a massive step up in his career.

Trusty was recently called into the United States Men’s national team’s January training camp ahead of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The player was chosen as Colorado Rapids’ defender of the year in 2021. It will be interesting to see whether he can fulfil his tremendous potential at the Premier League club.

Arsenal have a rich history of nurturing quality young players into established professionals. Trusty will be hoping that Emirates can help him take the next step in his development.
