Arsenal picked up a morale-boosting 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby this Sunday.

However, the Gunners were handed a major injury blow with Swiss international midfielder Granit Xhaka suffering an injury in the 82nd minute.

Tottenham winger Lucas Moura inflicted the injury on Xhaka after he fell on the midfielder’s right leg.

Arteta said to The Athletic: “Unfortunately he got an injury and I’m pretty worried because it doesn’t look very positive at the moment.”

The Gunners are already lacking in depth when it comes to central midfield positions and the absence of Xhaka for an extended spell could be a hammer blow for the London side.

Arsenal made a disastrous start to their Premier League campaign but they have picked up form in their last three matches and Arteta will look to build on his side’s current winning run.

The Gunners have managed to win the last three Premier League games and they will look to put together a positive set of results now.

The last thing Arsenal need right now is for an injury to derail their momentum and confidence.

Xhaka is a key player for Arsenal and without him, the Londoners would have to reply on the young Albert Lokonga. The summer signing has produced encouraging performances so far but Arteta needs to introduce him to English football gradually.

Another option would be to use Mohamed Elneny alongside Thomas Partey but the quality of passing would suffer. Xhaka is undoubtedly the best passer in the Arsenal side and his absence will weaken the Gunners in the midfield.
