Arsenal’s £25m bid for Lisandro Martinez dismissed by Ajax

Emirates Stadium-Arsenal

Arsenal have been linked with several players in recent weeks, and the latest name linked with a move to the North London club is that of the Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez.

Apparently, the Gunners are keen on improving their defensive options this summer, and they have identified the 24-year-old as a key target.

Arsenal have already submitted an offer of around £25m for the Argentine international, but the Dutch outfit has turned down the bid.

The Gunners are hoping the 24-year-old can partner the likes of Gabriel at the back next season. It will be interesting to see if the Londoners are willing to return with an improved offer for the Ajax defender in the coming weeks now.

Reports claim that Barcelona are keeping tabs on the Argentine defender as well, and Ajax are hoping that a bidding war can help them recoup a premium for the 24-year-old.

Arsenal are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements if they want to break into the top four next season, and they must look to sign Martinez at all costs.

The young defender has the potential to develop into a top-class player in the future, and regular football in the Premier League under the management of Arteta could help him fulfil his potential.

Also, the chance to move to England is an attractive proposition for most players. Furthermore, the Londoners will be able to offer him a more lucrative contract as compared to Ajax.

It remains to be seen how things unfold over the next few days.
