Jose Mourinho keen on David de Gea, must also strengthen other positions at Roma

Jose Mourinho is keen on David de Gea as he is assuming manager's role for AS Roma next season. He must strengthen couple of other positions too, during rebuild.

Jose Mourinho-Tottenham Hotspur

Jose Mourinho was recently appointed as the Roma manager and the Portuguese has a massive challenge ahead of him.

Roma have failed to win a trophy in over a decade and Mourinho will be expected to end their trophy drought.

Furthermore, the Italian side are in need of a rebuild as well and the club hierarchy will have to back the Portuguese manager with the necessary funds to put together a side capable of challenging the likes of Inter Milan and Juventus.

The former Spurs manager is a proven winner throughout his career. Still, his time at Tottenham was a massive disappointment and it has undoubtedly hurt his credibility at the top level. Mourinho has not won a major trophy since leaving Chelsea.

It will be interesting to see if he can silence his critics and win something of note next season.

Roma will have to bring in reinforcements across the pitch and Mourinho has already identified a new goalkeeper for them next season.

Apparently, he wants to sign David de Gea from Manchester United this summer. Mourinho has worked with the Spaniard during their time together at Old Trafford and it will be interesting to see if he can sign the player at the end of the season.

De Gea has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after Dean Henderson replaced him in starting eleven. His alleged dip in form over the past year, had brought many criticism. Some could also argue, he was made scapegoat for any defensive errors. Nevertheless, he was pretty impressive against Roma last night. He looked like near his best.

Meanwhile, Mourinho will have to sort out Roma’s back four as well. Defensively, the Italian side have been quite vulnerable and they have recently conceded 8 goals against Manchester United in the Europa League semi-finals.

They will have to find a younger alternative to Edin Dzeko as well. The Bosnian has been ever-reliant for the Italian side but he is in his twilight years and will need replacing soon.

It will be interesting to see if the Italians can sort out all of these problems during the summer transfer window and give Mourinho the best chance to challenge for trophies.
