According to reports, Takumi Minamino has asked Liverpool to allow his leave for Monaco this summer.

The French Ligue 1 club have emerged as the frontrunner for the Japanese international’s signature, which Liverpool valued at £17million.

Fellow Lyon, Atalanta, Wolves and Fulham have also been linked with the attacker. Still, it appears that the attacking midfielder favours a move to the Principality club, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 27-year-old, who was signed by RB Salzburg in January 2020, was instrumental for Liverpool as they won a domestic cup double. But he is surplus to requirements at Anfield despite being the top soccer in the cup competitions and scoring three goals in eleven Premier League appearances.

He is, therefore, likely to leave Anfield in search of more regular game time.

His club coach Jurgen Klopp even admitted in March that he had found it hard not to include the Japanese star in his squad more often last season.

“It is incredibly hard for him and for me as well because it is really tough these kinds of things,’ Klopp said. ‘Taki is in an incredible moment.”

Minamino has scored 14 goals in 55 appearances during his Reds career.
