Brighton

After their FA Cup exertions last weekend against Championship side West Brom, Brighton return to the Premier League with a visit from Crystal Palace.

The hosts were nearly dumped out of the FA Cup by a spirited West Brom side who went ahead in the game through Callum Robinson in the 47th minute. But Brighton found an equalizer in the 81st minute through Jakub Moder before Neal Maupay sealed the win for them in extra time with a well-taken goal.

The win extended the hosts’ unbeaten run to four games in all competitions and was the third time they were scoring two or more goals in their last four games.

Their last Premier League outing was a 2-3 away win at Everton, which moved them into the top half of the table, four points behind Manchester United in 7th. Graham Potter’s side have drawn four of their last eight PL matches and are averaging 1.35 points a game which is a great improvement from last season.

The 27 points the Seagulls have accumulated so far this season is ten points more than they did last season after 19 matches, proving that Potter’s side is on the rise.

They will fancy their chances of taking maximum points from this tie but have only taken 44% of their total points from home games this season.

Crystal Palace

Like their hosts, Crystal Palace were also in FA Cup action over the weekend as they beat Millwall in a highly contested game that witnessed some crowd trouble.

Patrick Vieira’s side won the game with an identical scoreline like their hosts. But unlike Graham Potter’s side, the Eagles did not have to go to extra time to secure their win. Millwall were the first to score in the first half following an error at the back by second-choice keeper Jack Butland. But youngster Michael Olise and French forward Jean-Philippe Mateta scored within 13 minutes of the restart to win the game for Palace.

The visitors’ last league outing was a 2-3 home defeat against David Moyes’ top-six chasing West Ham United. The loss was their second league loss in their last three league games and moved Vieira’s side down to 12th in the league standings.

They have taken 23 points so far this season, which is as many points as they did last season after 20 matches. With a visit from Liverpool after this tie, the visitors will be desperate to win this game and keep their hopes of a top-half finish alive.

But the absence of three of their key players who are playing in the AFCON will be a big loss for the Eagles.

Possible Crystal Palace starting line-ups

Vicente Guaita; Joel Ward, Joachim Andersen, Marc Guehi, Tyrick Adam Mitchell; Conor Gallagher, Will Hughes, Jeffrey Schlupp; Michael Olise, Christian Benteke, Odsonne Edouard.

Injured: James McArthur

Unavailable: Wilfried Zaha, Cheikhou Kouyaté, André Ayew
