Callum Wilson set to join Newcastle United as Bournemouth accept £20m bid

The English striker is closing in on the move to St James’ Park.

Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson appears to be closing in on a transfer to Newcastle United.

According to reports, Newcastle United have had an offer worth £20m accepted by Bournemouth United for Callum Wilson.

Aston Villa also came up with a £21m bid, which is slightly higher than that of the Magpies, but Wilson turned out to be favouring a move to St James’ Park. He is also expected to wrap up his transfer with the Magpies sooner.

The 28-year-old had a season to forget last term as the Cherries suffered a relegation.

Wilson has been an integral part of the Cherries since joining them in 2015. He has made more than 200 appearances over the course while making his debut with the England national team in 2018.

Newcastle are understood to be in the forefront to sign Ryan Fraser as Steve Bruce wants him alongside Wilson. Fraser, who is now a free agent, has previously linked with a move to Tottenham.

The Scotland international has been tipped to be next to leave the club following the departures of Nathan Ake and Aaron Ramsdale, with the former one moving to Manchester City for £41m.

Meanwhile, the Cherries are trying to bring back the Magpies star Matt Ritchie, who left the Vitality stadium in 2016.
