Liverpool are reportedly serious about signing the Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

According to reports, the Premier League side have been in touch with the player’s agents regarding a summer move.

The 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Spanish club, and he needs to leave them to play regular first-team football next year.

The player has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona as well, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.

Liverpool have lost Gini Wijnaldum to Paris Saint Germain recently, and they will have to find a quality replacement for the Dutchman.

Saul is undoubtedly one of the better options out there to replace Wijnaldum, and the Reds must do everything in their power to pull off his signing in the coming weeks.

Shaqiri confirms his desire to leave

Meanwhile, Xherdan Shaqiri has confirmed that he wants to leave Liverpool this summer in order to play regularly, and he has already informed the Premier League giants of his decision.

The 29-year-old has been a squad player for Liverpool ever since he joined the club from Stoke City, and he is hoping to take up a new challenge in the coming weeks.

The player has been linked with a move to Lazio recently, and Shaqiri claims that he feels honoured that the Italian outfit are interested in signing him.

He said: “The important thing at this moment in my career is to be able to play regularly, but that hasn’t always been the case in the last three seasons.

“This is why I told Liverpool that I feel ready for a new challenge. They accepted my wish and will seriously consider the offers that will come. They will not stop me.

“I’m only 29 years old, I have played in some of the best Leagues in Europe, and I would like to continue being a part of them.

“I’m not yet thinking about the end of my career. It’s a future, I imagine, far away. We will see what destiny has in store for me.

“I have no direct contact; my consultant team deals with the market. They inform me when there are clubs interested. You have to ask them for the names.”
