Bologna 2-2 Atalanta: Bologna come from behind to cancel out Muriel double strike

Luis Muriel-Atalanta

Muriel’s double goes in vain as Bologna stun Atalanta with a late draw.

Atalanta have been held to a 2-2 draw against Bologna despite leading 2-0 even before the half-hour mark.

Bologna were impressive at their home after scoring two late goals to get away with a draw.

Luis Muriel scored back to back goals in the first half to give the visitors an unassailable lead, with the first goal being a penalty after Josep Ilicic was fouled inside the box.

Atalanta could have easily added two more to the scoreline were it not for their misfired shots.

Bologna followed up with an impressive second-half performance which saw them score two goals in the final quarter of the game.

Tomiyasu scored the first one after he chipped the ball past Pierluigi Gollini. The Japanese youngster scored his first goal of the league this season while he continues to be an exciting talent in Serie A.

Nehuen Perez scored a header from the corner kick to put Bologna on level terms, thus denying three points for Atalanta.

The Bergamo outfit hasn’t been off to an impressive start in Serie A unlike the previous seasons as they are currently seventh in the table.

Gian Piero Gasperini offered his thoughts on the draw, stating that the result was bad, “It’s a bad result for us.”

“We were dominating the game, but they are comeback specialists. We had many goal-scoring chances and it’s hard to explain what happens. We have thrown two points away. Being presumptuous is not something we can afford. It would be very bad to be presumptuous and arrogant.”
