Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move away from the Premier League club this summer.

Apparently, the 37-year-old is keen on an exit as he is unhappy with the ambition of the club in the transfer market. So far, Manchester United have signed just Tyrell Malacia, and that is simply not enough to propel the club into the Champions League.

A club of their stature should be playing in Europe’s premier competition, but they missed out on a top-four finish last season.

Ronaldo returned to Manchester United with the hope of winning major trophies, but it has not worked out for him yet. Although he scored 24 goals across all competitions last season, his side failed to win a trophy.

The player has expressed his desire to leave the club this summer, but United are adamant that the player will not be sold. He was asked to report to pre-season training today, but Ronaldo will now miss the session because of personal reasons, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester United have now accepted his explanation behind the absence, and he will be allowed to join up with his teammates later.

The player has one year left on his deal at Old Trafford and has been linked with clubs like Bayern Munich, Chelsea and PSG in recent weeks.

A player of his calibre could improve any side in world football, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

As for Manchester United, they cannot afford to lose their only goalscorer if they are to get back into the top four. It remains to be seen whether they can convince the player to change his mind.
