Newcastle United have confirmed the appointment of Eddie Howe as the club’s new manager.

The Premier League club have confirmed on their official website that the former Bournemouth manager has signed a contract with them until the summer of 2024.

The 43-year-old left Bournemouth last summer and it will be interesting to see if he can succeed with the Magpies in the Premier League.

He has been appointed as the replacement for Steve Bruce, who was sacked last month.

Howe managed Bournemouth through all four tiers of English football and the Cherries did well in the Premier League under his management.

The 43-year-old manager will be expected to turn things around immediately at Newcastle.

The Premier League side are currently 19th in the league table and they will be desperate to beat relegation this season.

The new owners are thought to be quite ambitious and it remains to be seen whether they are prepared to strengthen the squad sufficiently when the transfer window reopens in January.

There is no doubt that Newcastle are in need of reinforcements and signing a couple of quality players could make a huge difference to their season.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe’s arrival will certainly excite the Newcastle fans who have been crying out for a manager with an attacking philosophy.

Bournemouth played some impressive attacking football under his management and the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron could flourish in his system.

Speaking to the club’s media after his appointment, the 43-year-old revealed that it is a great honour for him to manage a club of Newcastle’s stature and history.

Eddie Howe said: “It is a great honour to become head coach of a club with the stature and history of Newcastle United. It is a very proud day for me and my family.

“This is a wonderful opportunity, but there is also a lot of work ahead of us and I am eager to get onto the training ground to start working with the players.

“I would like to thank the club’s owners for this opportunity and thank the club’s supporters for the incredible welcome they have already given me. I am very excited to begin our journey together.”

Newcastle United co-owner, Amanda Staveley said: “We have been incredibly impressed by Eddie through what has been a rigorous recruitment process.

“As well as his obvious achievements with AFC Bournemouth, where he had a transformational impact, he is a passionate and dynamic coach who has clear ideas about taking this team and club forward.

“He is a great fit for what we are trying to build here. We are delighted to welcome Eddie and his staff to St. James’ Park and very much look forward to working together towards our collective ambitions.”
