Everton 0-1 Leeds United: Raphinha helps Leeds to pick up a morale boosting win

Raphinha-Leeds United

Everton crashed to a 1-0 defeat against Leeds United in the Premier League earlier today.

Raphinha scored the only goal of the game for Leeds United on the 79th minute.

Carlo Ancelotti will be thoroughly disappointed with his team’s performance at home and it will be interesting to see if the Toffees can bounce back strongly in the next game.

Everton have started the Premier League season in impressive form but they have been inconsistent in the recent weeks.

Meanwhile Leeds United have struggled at the back of this season and they will be delighted to have kept a clean sheet away from home.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been quite impressive going forward but they have lacked the organisation at the back.

A clean sheet here will have given them immense confidence and it remains to be seen if Leeds United can build on this and put together a winning run now.

A defeat tonight leaves Everton 6th in the table with 16 points from 10 matches and Leeds United are now up to 11th in the table with 14 points.

The newly-promoted side will be hoping to secure a respectable finish in the Premier League this season and they certainly have the quality to finish in the top half.

If Leeds can sort out their defensive issues in the coming weeks, they have what it takes to challenge the likes of Everton and Leicester City for the Europa League spot.

Everton switched to a back three against Leeds United tonight and it will be interesting to see if Carlo Ancelotti persists with the system that has not worked well for the Merseyside outfit this season.

Everton have played their best football with a back four and they will have to revert to a more progressive approach if they want to do well this season.
