Frank Lampard is in the hot seat following a string of disappointing performances in the Premier League including Chelsea‘s recent defeat to Leicester City. The Blues hierarchy are said to be considering a replacement for the former English international should the failure continue. Here are the top 5 favourites to succeed Lampard at Stamford Bridge.
Andriy Shevchenko
Everybody is well aware of how good Shevchenko was during his time at Milan and his forgetful stint at Stamford Bridge. Shevchenko has fared well since hopping on to the managerial career with the Ukraine national team. With no experience at the club level, it would be a risky move for the Blues to recruit the former Ukrainian international at this time.
Thomas Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel is readily available out of all the managers after he was dismissed by PSG last month. The German gaffer is also said to be on the shortlist of possible replacements of Lampard. Tuchel is an astute tactician as he led the Les Parisiens to a domestic treble and runners-up finish in the Champions League last term.
Max Allegri
Max Allegri could be the third Italian to take reigns at Stamford Bridge in recent years following Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri. Allegri has proven himself as a top-class manager after turning Juventus into a serial-title winner of Scudetto. However, the Blues haven’t placed much trust in the Italian managers in the past, and it remains to be seen whether they will change their conviction on Allegri.
Julian Nagelsmann
The German gaffer is one of the young and exciting coaches in Europe at the moment, after turning RB Leipzig into a powerful force. Nagelsmann could be entertained to work with his fellow compatriots Timo Werner and Kai Havertz at Stamford Bridge. Both the Germans are a sort of disappointment this season, failing to hit the ground after the much-anticipated transfers in the summer. Nagelsmann can help Werner and Havertz improve drastically, given that he has managed the former at Leipzig. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea can recruit Nagelsmann in the middle of the season where Leipzig are competing for both Champions League and Bundesliga.
Brendan Rodgers
Brendan Rodgers has become a prolific manager after turning Leicester City into Premier League title contenders this season. The Foxes are currently third in the table a place above Rodgers’ former club and defending champions Liverpool. It was against Leicester Chelsea recently suffered a 2-0 defeat. Like Nagelsmann, the possibilities of Rodgers moving to Stamford Bridge midway through the season are less.
