Jorge Mendes pushing to bring Julen Lopetegui to Manchester United

Julen Lopetegui-Sevilla

Manchester United relieved Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of his managerial duties yesterday after a mediocre start to the Premier League campaign.

The Red Devils were beaten 4-1 by Watford at the weekend and the club hierarchy felt that it was the right time for a change and Michael Carrick has been appointed as the interim manager of the club.

According to Manchester Evening News, Portuguese agent Jorge Mendes is hoping to bring the Sevilla manager Julen Lopetegui to Old Trafford as the Norwegian’s replacement.

Mendes also represents Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo and he is pushing for the Sevilla manager to take over at the Premier League club.

The Red Devils came up against Lopetegui last year in the Europa League and Sevilla managed to beat them in the semi-finals.

There is no doubt that Lopetegui is an impressive manager who has proven himself in La Liga.  He could prove to be an exciting addition for Manchester United.

The Premier League side have been linked with the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Erik Ten Hag and Brendan Rodgers as well and it will be interesting to see who they end up appointing.

Mendes has impressive connections at Old Trafford and it will be interesting to see if he can convince the Premier League giants to appoint the former Spanish international team manager.

Lopetegui wasn’t given a fair chance to prove his qualities with the Spanish national team and Real Madrid in the past and he will be hoping to make his mark at an elite European club now.

There is no doubt that Manchester United have the bones of a very good squad and a quality manager could help them develop into a well-drilled team.
