Leeds United are reportedly in advanced talks to agree on a new deal with midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to Football Insider, the Premier League side are now confident of sealing the contract extension before the end of the year.

The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the league and he has been a star for his country as well.

Kalvin Phillips formed an excellent partnership at the heart of England’s midfield with Declan Rice during the European Championships and he is undoubtedly going to be a mainstay of Gareth Southgate’s midfield going forward.

The player has been linked with a move away from Elland Road in recent months and it is no surprise that Leeds are in a hurry to tie him down to a long term contract.

A player of his calibre is good enough to play for any club in the Premier League and Leeds will not want to lose him anytime soon.

Furthermore, Phillips is still quite young and he is yet to reach his peak. The midfielder is likely to get better with experience and coaching.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will be delighted with the fact that the midfielder is very keen to commit his long term future to the club.

The report also adds that the new deal will include a significant pay rise and the agreement could be sorted before the January transfer window opens.

Phillips currently has a contract with Leeds until the summer of 2024.
