Lazio scored three past Atalanta to move to fifth position in Serie A table

Lazio have sought revenge for their Coppa Italia loss by defeating Atalanta 3-1 away in the weekend Serie A game.

The visitors were off to a quickfire start when Adam Marusic scored a brilliant solo goal inside three minutes of the game.

Argentine striker Joaquin Correa doubled the lead in the 51st minute when he found the nets after making a meal of Ciro Immobile’s assist.

Mario Pasalic pulled one back in the 79th minute to keep Atalanta alive but Vedat Muriqi crushed their hopes once and for all by scoring the third goal for Lazio minutes later.

The win means Lazio haven’t dropped points in any of their last five games as they are one step away from entering into the top four race.

As far as Atalanta are concerned, their fluctuating form in this season has currently placed them sixth in the table, a place behind Lazio.

Simone Inzaghi looks to be on a mission after being clinical in recent weeks despite the setback against Atalanta in the quarter-finals of Coppa Italia.

Meanwhile, Atalanta gaffer Gian Piero Gasperini wasn’t happy with how his side conceded goals.

Gasperini said,

“The opening goal allowed Lazio to be able to play their best and efficiently.

“I didn’t see a bad performance from my players, unfortunately we conceded some foolish goals.

“It’s one of those games where some episodes led to success for the visitors. Overall, I didn’t mind Atalanta’s performance.”
