Roma 0–0 Sassuolo: Pedro sees red in goalless stalemate

Both the teams have shared points after a goalless draw at Stadio Olimpico.

Roma have been held to a goalless draw at home by Sassuolo in Serie A, with both the sides sharing a point apiece.

Both the sides looked sturdy in the defence although they created less in front of the attack. Sassuolo midfielder Filip Durisic had the best sight at goal in the first half but goalkeeper Mirante rushed off to deny the chance. Roma forward Pedro Rodriguez was also sent off after receiving two yellow cards, thus reducing the hosts to a man down. Manager Paulo Fonseca also received a red card in the wake of the burst out. The drama continued in the first half as Henrikh Mkhitaryan had his goal disallowed by VAR due to a foul by teammate Edin Dzeko.

The visitors also saw a goal overturned in the second half after VAR deemed the scorer Lukas Haraslin offside. Roma chose to sit back in their own half and tried to catch Sassuolo on the break, but to both the team’s dismay, the game ended in a stalemate.

Giallorossi have failed to make an impact for the second consecutive game as they had been thrashed by Napoli last week.

Meanwhile, Sassuolo had their fairy tale run cut short by Inter Milan in the last week and they have now dropped points consecutively. Robert De Zerbi’s men are currently fourth in the table, leading Roma by a point.

It will be interesting to see how both these sides would build on this draw and push for the Scudetto.
