Leicester City

Leicester City will look to get back to winning ways when they welcome Liverpool to the King Power Stadium this Tuesday, 48 hours after their entertaining loss to Man City.

The Foxes left it too late to spring a comeback against Pep Guardiola’s side on Boxing Day, eventually losing 6-3 to the Premier League defending champions. The hosts were undone by a poor first half, which saw them concede four goals.

But in the second half, they tried to fight back, scoring three goals in the space of ten minutes through James Maddison, Ademola Lookman and Kelechi Iheanacho. But in the end, the goals proved only to be a consolation as City scored two more goals to end any chances of a comeback for the Foxes.

However, Brendan Rodgers would have been pleased with his side’s response to their first-half setback and would be looking to build on their second-half performance when they host the Reds. The last time they met Jürgen Klopp’s men was last Wednesday in the EFL Cup.

In that game they went two goals up inside the first 13 minutes, but allowed the Reds back into the game in the second half, ultimately losing the match in penalties.

They will be desperate to right the wrongs here and pick up just their second win in the last seven games.

Possible Leicester City starting line-ups

Kasper Schmeichel; Timothy Castagne, Caglar Soyuncu, Wilfred Ndidi, Luke Thomas; Boubakary Soumare, Youri Tielemans, James Maddison; Harvey Barnes, Patson Daka, Jamie Vardy.

Injured: Daniel Amartey, Wesley Fofana, Justin James, Filip Benkovic.

Doubtful: Hamza Choudhury, Ricardo Pereira, Johnny Evans.

Suspended: None

Liverpool

Liverpool will get back to Premier League football on Tuesday when they travel to Leicester. The Reds did not play on Boxing Day after their game with Leeds United was postponed due to the Covid outbreak in the Leeds United squad.

And so with a week’s rest in their legs, they will travel to Leicester raring to put in a good shift and take home maximum points against a side they beat in their last outing.

Jurgen Klopp’s side come into this tie as a side in good form, having won all but one of their last ten games in all competitions. They have scored at least two goals per game in 13 out of their last 15 games And with 50 goals to their name, they are the highest scoring side in the league (level with City who have played a game more).

They currently are sitting six points behind City and will want to win this game to close the gap and ensure that they don’t fall further behind in the title race.

Possible Liverpool starting line-ups

Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Kostas Tsimikas; Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain; Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota.

Injured: Divock Origi, Harvey Elliot, Adrian

Doubtful: Thiago Alcantara, Nat Phillips

Suspended: Andrew Robertson
