Barcelona Presidential candidate Emili Rousaud Has claimed that Lionel misses salary at the club in the current economic condition is unsustainable.
Apparently the former Blaugrana vice president will look to lower the Argentine international’s salary if he manages to win the presidential elections.
Lionel Messi is the highest earner at Barcelona and he has been linked with a move away from the Spanish club this year.
The Argentine has one year left on his contract and he will be a free agent at the end of this current season. it seems that the player might have to take a wage cut in order to continue at the Spanish club beyond this season.
Rousaud believes that Barcelona will present the player with an attractive project that is ambitious and will help the player win more trophies. However, an agreement will have to be reached regarding the player’s wages.
It will be interesting to see if Lionel Messi agrees to lower his wages in the coming months.
The player has been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. Both clubs can afford his astronomical wages and a move away from Barcelona might be economically attractive for the Argentine superstar.
Rousaud said: “Clearly, in the current environment of the club Messi’s salary is not sustainable. It is unsustainable. An agreement must be reached. The project that we will present to him is attractive.”
