Liverpool

Liverpool welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield on Saturday afternoon in Round seven of the English Premier League season.

The Red have started the season in alarmingly poor fashion, despite breaking their transfer record to bring Darwin Nunez to Merseyside. Their poor start has seen them lose early ground in the race for the Premier League crown.

With nine points in their last six games, Liverpool have recorded their worst League start to the Premier season since the 2015/16 season under Brendan Rodgers, and their lowest point tally under Jurgen Klopp after six games.

Jurgen Klopp will rue his luck with a plethora of injuries hitting first-choice midfielders, and a host of first-team players underperforming.

After being battered by Napoli in the Champions League in midweek, the game against Bruno Lage’s men has become of greater significance for the German coach and his team. The fans will demand nothing less than a dominant win against Wolves in front of the Kop.

Possible Liverpool starting line-up

Alisson Becker; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk, Andy Robertson; Fabinho, Harvey Elliot, Arthur Melo; Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino.

Injured: Ibrahima Konate, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita, Calvin Ramsay, Jordan Henderson, Caoimhin Kelleher, Curtis Jones

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None

Wolves

Wolves just like Liverpool have not started the season in the manner that they would have wanted, with just one win in their last six games.

Bruno Lage’s men come into this game off the back of a 1-0 win over Southampton in game week six, with a Daniel Podence strike at the stroke of halftime enough to see that Wolves took all three points.

The game against Liverpool will be a whole new challenge for the Wanderers as they are winless in their last five attempts against the Reds, with their latest defeat being the 3-1 loss in the last round of the 2021/22 Premier League season.

The recent struggles of the Premier League powerhouse will be a cause for optimism for Bruno Lage, with the Reds looking surprisingly vulnerable at the back, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Arnold-Alexander especially, being on the receiving end of scathing criticism in recent weeks.

Possible Wolves starting line-up

Jose Sa; Jonny, Nathan Collins, Max Kilman, Rayan Ait-Nouri; Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes, João Moutinho; Pedro Neto, Daniel Podence, Hee-Chan Hwang.

Injured: Chiquinho, Raul Jimenez

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
