According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are ready to trigger the release clause of Barcelona’s teenage sensation Gavi.

According to Diario Sport, the Reds are looking to take advantage of Gavi’s situation in Barcelona. His agent Ivan de la Pena, is reportedly at odds with Barcelona officials over a new contract at the Nou Camp.

The 17-year-old’s deal with the Catalan side expires in the summer of 2023, and he has been linked to several top sides over the past season.

As a result, Barcelona are under threat from Liverpool, who are keen on signing the midfield starlet.

Earlier this week, a report from the same publication said that Gavi’s agent is unhappy with club president Joan Laporta for comments he made suggesting Gavi’s representatives were dragging out contract negotiations and delaying their decision.

But according to De la Pena, Gavi is yet to receive a formal renewal proposal from the club.

The Spanish international came through the club’s famous La Masia academy. Despite his contract standoff with Barcelona, Gavi would prefer to stay in Barcelona as long as they can agree on a new contract.

But Jurgen Klopp’s men would be able to offer the player a higher salary, given Barcelona’s financial situation at present.

The 17-year-old first broke into Barcelona’s first at the beginning of the season and has enjoyed an excellent breakthrough campaign.

He has made 47 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and six assists in the season.

Apart from the Premier League side, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are other clubs linked with Gavi this season.
