Cristiano Ronaldo to wear the iconic number 7 shirt for Manchester United

Manchester United completed the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus earlier this summer at the Red Devils have now confirmed that the Portuguese superstar will wear the iconic #7 shirt at Old Trafford this season.

Ronaldo wore the legendary shirt number during his first spell with the club as well.

The 36-year-old completed an emotional return to Old Trafford and he is expected to make his Premier League debut against Newcastle United on the 11th of September after the international break.

Initially, the number 7 shirt was owned by the Uruguayan international Edinson Cavani but the striker has agreed to switch to the number 21 shirt in order to accommodate Ronaldo.

The 36-year-old thanked Cavani for his gesture after the striker agreed to vacate the number 7 shirt for him.

“I was not sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again,” Ronaldo admitted.

“So I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi for this incredible gesture.”

The iconic Manchester United shirt has been worn by club legends like George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona and David Beckham in the past and Ronaldo certainly lived up to the expectations of the legendary should during his first spell at the club.

The Portuguese superstar helped Manchester United win three Premier League titles and a Champions League title during his previous spell and he will be hoping to guide them to more silverware this season.
