Man United Update: Red Devils handed Upamecano transfer blow, Van de Beek struggles

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer-Manchester United

Red Devils handed Upamecano blow

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano in the recent months but it seems that they have lost out to the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Bayern Munich in the race.

Apparently the Old Trafford outfit have no chance of signing the 22-year-old defender anymore.

It will be interesting to see who they move for instead. Manchester United need to find a quality partner for Harry Maguire and the centre back should be a top priority for them at the end of the season.

The likes of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly have been quite inconsistent at times and they need a more reliable defensive presence at the bank.

Van de Beek struggles down to Solskjaer

Meanwhile manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been blamed for Donny van de Beek’s mediocre performance against West Ham.

The Dutchman was handed a rare start against the Hammers in the FA Cup earlier but he failed to impress and was taken off 15 minutes before time.

According to BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas, the midfielder was playing with fear and the Manchester United manager is responsible for that.

It is possible that the midfielder was playing with caution so that he does not make a mistake. He is not a regular starter for Manchester United and therefore any mistake could prove to be costly in terms of future opportunities.

The Dutchman needs to have a regular run in the side and more freedom to showcase his true talent.

“That look on his face there I’ve just seen sums up, unfortunately, the way he’s playing at the moment with a bit of fear and a lack of rhythm,” Jenas said as van de Beek was subbed.

“I honestly don’t think it’s his fault. He’s out there being professional, doing everything he possibly can.

“But when you don’t have that run of games in your system or belief that you can go out there and afford to make mistakes you don’t show the full version of who you are, and that creative streak which got him to the football club in the first place.”
