Manchester City and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.

The 22-year-old is expected to leave the Dutch outfit at the end of this season, and the two Premier League clubs have held talks with the player regarding a potential move.

Gakpo is a massive talent who has a big future ahead of him, and he has been linked with the likes of Bayern Munich as well.

Liverpool could certainly use a quality attacker to freshen up their front three, and the 22-year-old could prove a quality long term acquisition.

Jurgen Klopp has worked wonders with talented young players, and he could help the Dutchman improve and fulfil his immense potential.

Meanwhile, Manchester City will be keen on improving their squad depth as well, and it remains to be seen where the player ends up eventually.

The Premier League champions certainly have the financial muscle to pull off the transfer, but Liverpool are an attractive proposition as well.

The Reds have been fighting for major honours under Jurgen Klopp consistently, and they will probably be able to offer Gakpo more playing time compared to Manchester City.

At the Etihad Stadium, the 22-year-old will have to compete with Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish for a starting berth.

On the other hand, Liverpool could use an alternative to the likes of Sadio Mane, and Gakpo is likely to play more often at Anfield.

The report from Voetbal international adds that the player will sign a new contract with PSV until the summer of 2026, it is fair to assume that he’s unlikely to be a cheap option this summer.

Manchester City and Liverpool might have to pay a premium price to lure the 22-year old away from the Netherlands.
