Manchester City turn their attention to Haaland after Harry Kane transfer blow

Erling Haaland-Borussia Dortmund

The Premier League champions will look to target Erling Haaland next summer.

Manchester City’s pursuit of Harry Kane hit a stumbling block after he confirmed that he would be staying at Tottenham Hotspur this season.

The Premier League champions were persistent on signing Kane and so were Spurs in not selling their star striker at all costs this summer.

The 28-year-old put an end to his exit speculations by releasing a statement through Twitter, stating that he would be committed to the North Londoners for the 2021/22 season.

According to a new report, City’s attention has turned towards Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, who is one of the most sought after players in Europe at the moment.

Although he is set to stay at Signal Iduna Park this season, the Norwegian striker is expected to be the subject of a transfer war next summer.

Haaland bagged a total of 41 goals and 12 assists across all competitions for Dortmund last season, helping them secure a spot in the Champions League.

Chelsea showed a lot of desire in signing him but they withdrew from the race after the German club insisted that Haaland is not for sale. The Blues eventually signed Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.

The 21-year-old’s release clause of 64m pounds will become active next year and Man City are expected to face tough competition from their cross-town rivals Manchester United.

United are said to be in pole position to sign the Norwegian international next summer meanwhile La Liga giants Real Madrid have plans to make him a Galactico signing.

For the time being, Pep Guardiola has to rely on the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Ferran Torres as the latter two have already shown they can act as false 9’s in the attack.

City have also been linked with Juventus ace Cristiano Ronaldo, who is keen to leave Serie A before the end of the transfer window.
