Newcastle United have been linked with a move for the Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.
According to Goal.com, the French international could be in line for a lucrative free transfer to the Premier League club next summer.
Barcelona are reportedly in talks to renew Dembele’s contract which expires in June 2022.
Apparently the player’s agent is yet to respond to Barcelona’s contract proposal and the player is thought to be looking at other options with Newcastle mentioned as one of the main candidates for his signature.
The Magpies could definitely use more pace and flair in the wide areas and Dembele would be an exceptional addition for them.
The Frenchman has not been able to showcase his true potential at Barcelona since his move from Borussia Dortmund because of injuries and he is yet to play a single game this season.
If Newcastle end up signing him they will be hoping that the Frenchman can get over his injury problems and hit top form in the Premier League.
When he joined Barcelona, Dembele was widely regarded as one of the best young attackers in the world and he has the potential to develop into a world class player.
Apparently Newcastle have already made contact with the player’s agent and they are prepared to offer him wages of around €15 million a season for five years.
The report also adds that Dembele will receive a significant €15 million signing-on bonus if he agrees to move to the Premier League club at the end of his contract.
