Jose Mourinho is looking to sign the Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka before the January transfer window closes.

The Switzerland international was heavily linked with a move to  AS Roma during the summer transfer window, but the two clubs failed to reach an agreement, and the midfielder ended up signing a new deal with the London club.

Roma have not given up on the 29-year-old Arsenal midfielder yet, and they are set to make a move this month.

However, Daily Mail are claiming that the Italian club will look to sell midfielder Amadou Diawara first period.

Xhaka has had a mixed time at Arsenal since his move from Borussia Monchengladbach, and a move away from the Gunners could give him a fresh start.

The midfielder has been heavily criticised by the Arsenal fanbase at times, and it remains to be seen whether he is willing to try out a new challenge in Italy this month.

Arsenal are currently lacking in the central midfield department, and it would be quite surprising if they decided to sell the Swiss international this month.

Mikel Arteta will be looking to finish in the top four this season, and he will not want to weaken his squad midway through the season.

The Gunners must look to bring in reinforcements in the central midfield before selling anyone, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops over the next few days.

The report from Daily Mail adds that granite Xhaka is valued at £16.6 million, and Roma will have to pay up in order to secure his services.

The Italian club are reportedly looking to sign the player in instalments as they will be unable to pay the fee upfront.
