Manchester United beat Barcelona to secure Donny van de Beek deal

Manchester United interested to sign Ajax's Donny van de Beek

Manchester United  are closing in on a deal to sign Donny van de Beek from Ajax this summer.

The 23-year-old has been linked with Tottenham and Barcelona as well but the Red Devils have now beaten them to the player’s transfer.

According to reports, United will pay around £35.7m for the playmaker this summer. Van de Beek has already agreed on a long term contract with the Premier League side and he will complete the move this week.

The Ajax star scored 14 goals and he picked up 7 assists last season. He will improve Manchester United going forward next year.

Solskjaer needed to add more depth in the midfield and the Dutchman will provide just that.

The midfielder has proven his quality in the Eredivisie and in the Champions League. If he manages to adapt to the Premier League quickly, he will take United’s attack to a whole new level.

Manchester United will look to challenge for the Premier League title next year and they will need signings like van de Beek to achieve their goals.

The reported fee looks quite reasonable for a player of his quality. Also, he is only 23 and he will improve a lot with coaching and experience.

It will be interesting to see how he fits into Solskjaer’s system now. United already have two creative players starting for them in Pogba and Fernandes. Adding van de Beek to that midfield means that United might have to sacrifice an attacker from their starting lineup next season.
