Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the Barcelona midfielder Frenkie De Jong for weeks now.
The Old Trafford outfit have agreed on a fee with the Spanish club, according to Fabrizio Romano but the Dutchman is keen on staying at Camp Nou.
That said, he has been asked to take a payout in order to stay at Barcelona, but he is not too keen on doing so. It will be interesting to see if De Jong decides to leave for Manchester United in the coming weeks.
As per Talksport, the Red Devils are already lining up other targets should they fail to lure the Dutchman away from Spain.
Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans is a target, and the Belgian has been linked with Arsenal as well. The player has one year left on his current deal, and he would be a cheaper option compared to De Jong.
Furthermore, he is well settled in the Premier League, and he could make an immediate impact at Old Trafford.
Another player on Manchester United’s radar is the Wolves star, Ruben Neves.
The Portuguese international is one of the best midfielders in the league, and he would be a quality signing for the Red Devils.
It remains to be seen how the situation evolves over the next few weeks now.
Both Neves and Tielemans seem more reasonable options for now, and they are well versed with English football as well.
De Jong, on the other hand, would be a bit of a gamble given how his former teammate, Donny van de Beek, struggled to adapt to the Premier League upon his move from Ajax.
