Manchester United are eyeing up a move for Alex Meret from Napoli.
David de Gea has been in mediocre form this season and the Spaniard needs some competition for the starting berth. Meret could push him to improve his performances next season.
Furthermore, the Red Devils could lose Dean Henderson this summer. The youngster has done well for Sheffield United during his loan spell and his performances have attracted the attention of other Premier League clubs.
If United cannot guarantee him a starting berth, the 23-year-old is likely to leave the club.
Manchester United must plan for whatever happens and signing Meret would be a wise move. The Napoli ace is a talented player who will improve Solskjaer’s squad.
It will be interesting to see if the Premier League side can agree on a fee with the Italian giants though.
Napoli are not easy to negotiate with and they will try and drive the price up if they are forced to sell a key player.
Manchester United have the resources to spend big money on the player but they need to invest in the other areas of their squad as well.
They will be hoping to sign Meret for a reasonable fee this summer.
It remains to be seen whether they can convince the player to join them. Meret will want regular first-team football as well.
