Bayern Munich 5-1 Köln: Lewandowski, Gnabry score double to hammer Köln

Robert Lewandowski-Bayern Munich

The Bavarians moved five points clear at the top of the table after thrashing FC Köln.

Bayern Munich showed no mercy to Köln after beating them 5-1 at home as Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry scored a double each.

The Bavarians suffered a shock defeat against Frankfurt last week and they needed a big win to enhance their morale.

Eric Choupo-Moting put the visitors ahead and the goal marked his first in the Bayern shirt. Robert Lewandowski, who was a difficult player to keep away from the scoresheet, doubled the lead and thus Bayern headed into the tunnel with a strong 2-0 lead.

Koln, who are fourteenth in the Bundesliga table, halved the deficit inside four minutes of the second half through Skhiri.

However, the visitors couldn’t have foreseen the carnage that awaits them as Bayern went on to add three more goals.

Lewandowski completed his brace in the 65th minute before substitute Gnabry scored two quick goals in the space of fewer than five minutes.

Bayern striker Lewandowksi, who is having a spectacular run, has now racked up 28 goals in 22 league appearances this season. No wonder if he ends up winning both the Bundesliga and European Golden boot.

The Polish man’s goal-scoring run knows no bounds and he leads the race for top scorer race by a landslide.

Having crushed Lazio in the Champions League days ago, Bayern couldn’t have found a better way to wrap up the weekend.

Leon Goretzka put on a match-winning performance after setting up three goals for Bayern and was also brilliant in both the attacking and the defensive phases.
