Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has stated that he believes highly rated winger Bukayo Saka will sign a new contract at the club.

The Spanish manager rates the England man highly and has revealed that it is only a ‘matter of time’ before he will renew his deal with the north London side.

Under Arteta, Saka has become a key player for his boyhood side and enjoyed his best campaign yet last time out. The England international played all of Arsenal’s 38 Premier League games and registered 11 goals and seven assists last season.

He has picked up from where he stopped last season and has already formed part of an exciting looking forward line that included Gabriel Martinelli and new signing Gabriel Jesus on Saturday night when his side faced Everton at the M&T Bank Stadium.

His current deal is set to expire in 2024 and the Gunners are desperate to extend his contract amid interest from the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Asked about Saka’s future on Sunday, Arteta revealed that he is confident that negotiations would be smooth.

“We will try. We both have the same intention. It’s a matter of time,” he said.

Although Arsenal are pushing Saka hard to sign a new deal, reports say that the forward is in no rush to extend terms. According to 90min, the forward is considering his options before committing to a new deal.

The Gunners are not immediately concerned about his future but would prefer to have a deal sealed by the end of the summer. Should this not be possible, negotiations will continue into the 2022/23 season.
