Chelsea boss Lampard wants Thiago Silva to don captain’s armband

Thiago Silva agrees to sign two-year Chelsea deal

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of Thiago Silva on a free transfer.

The 35-year-old Brazilian has decided to leave PSG this summer and he is expected to complete his Chelsea medical soon.

Frank Lampard needed to add more defensive quality to his side and he will be delighted with the signing of Silva.

The Brazilian is a world-class player and despite his age, he could prove to be a useful addition to the Chelsea back four. Silva has proven his quality in Italy and France and he will be looking to make his mark in England now.

Signing a player of his quality on a free transfer is a no brainer and Chelsea will surely benefit from the move.

According to reports, Frank Lampard is planning to hand Thiago Silva the armband at Chelsea next season.

It will be interesting to see how the Chelsea dressing room react to the decision if it happens.

Cesar Azpilicueta is currently the Chelsea captain and he has been at the club for quite some time now.

There is no doubt that Silva has the leadership qualities to lead Chelsea next season but he is a new player and he will need time to settle into the squad first.

It could prove difficult for him to lead a group of new teammates without knowing them properly.

It will be interesting to see how the situation pans out if Lampard decides to go through with his plan of captaining Silva.
