Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been heavily linked with a move to Roma this summer, but manager Mikel Arteta has now confirmed that the player will stay with the Gunners.

The Londoners have now offered him a new contract until June 2025 with a pay rise.

The Premier League giants recently turned down a bid from Jose Mourinho’s Roma, worth in the region of €15 million. The Gunners are now confident that the player will now sign an extension with them.

The Switzerland international has had a mixed time at Arsenal so far, and he was reportedly looking for a fresh challenge.

However, the Italian outfit have disagreed on a fee with the Gunners, and Xhaka is now set to continue at the Emirates.

The 28-year-old was outstanding for his country in the European Championships, and it will be interesting to see if he can replicate that form in the Premier League next season.

There is no doubt that Xhaka is a quality player on his day, and he could make a big difference for the Gunners next season.

Xhaka staying at the club beyond this summer would mean that the Gunners might not need to invest in their midfield anymore, and they can strengthen the other areas of their squad with their resources.

It remains to be seen whether the player is prepared to commit his long term future to the London club and sign a new deal in the coming weeks.
