Mourinho delivers the latest update on Son Heung-Min’s contract situation

Son Heung-min-Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has shared his thoughts on a potential new deal for Son Heung-Min.

The South Korean has been outstanding for Tottenham this season and he has scored 13 Premier League goals so far.

Son is expected to sign a new contract with the London club and Mourinho believes that an agreement will be reached swiftly when the time is right.

The Tottenham manager claims that the world is going through a pandemic right now and the financial situation is unclear.

The attacker has a few years left on his current contract and therefore there is no real urgency to tie him down to a long term deal just yet.

It makes sense for Tottenham to wait until their financially better equipped.

Mourinho said: “Son is not a problem, he has a contract still for a couple of years if I am not wrong, maybe even three. I believe, just to wait for the right moment to do it.

“Probably this situation with the world where we are, the covid situation, I do not think it is the right moment for players and clubs to discuss contracts with so many people losing jobs and not working and difficulties. I believe that when the sun shines again for the world, I believe the club and Sonny they are going to arrive quite easily to a conclusion.”

Son is one of the best players in the league and the Spurs fans will be hoping that his future is resolved soon. However, the current economic crisis due to the pandemic means that the club will have to be prudent and patient when it comes to financial commitments.
