Newcastle 1-3 Liverpool: Reds finished season with 99 points

Newcastle 1-3 Liverpool Reds finished season with 99 points

Liverpool picked up a 3-1 win away from home against Newcastle in the Premier League yesterday.

The Magpies took the lead on the first minute through Dwight Gayle but the Reds did well to bounce back.

Virgil Van Dijk scored a looping header past Dubravka and Divock Origi curled one into the far post from outside the box to give the Reds their lead.

Sadio Mane scored a similar goal to double Liverpool’s advantage late on in the game.

Liverpool could have scored more goals but Mohamed Salah hit the post after coming on in the second half.

Newcastle have finished the season in 13th place on 44 points. Liverpool finish the season 18 points clear of second-placed Manchester City, although their total is one short of City’s record of 100 in 2017/18.

The Reds will now look to build for the next season. Klopp will want his players to defend the title

It will be interesting to see if the Reds can make the necessary additions in the transfer market now. They will lose Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren and they will have to bring in more depth this summer.

As for Newcastle, it remains to be seen whether their takeover goes through. It could be an exciting summer for their fans if the new owners manage to take charge soon.

Newcastle will be hoping to sign some quality players and push on next season.
