The Reds are heavily interested in the Spanish midfielder whom Atletico are willing to sell for £35m.
Liverpool are reportedly leading the race for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, who appears to be keen on moving away from Wanda Metropolitano this summer.
The Spanish midfielder, who had been pivotal for Diego Simeone’s side over the last few years, surprisingly fell down the pecking order last season.
Saul was also left disappointed after Luis Enrique opted against calling him to the Spanish national team for Euro 2020.
The 26-year-old is keen on a move away from the La Liga title winners this summer as he is aware that the prospective arrival of Rodrigo de Paul would affect his game-time.
Despite winning the La Liga title, Atletico are struggling financially, and the report also adds that they would be ready to sell Saul for a cut-price fee of £35 millions.
Elsewhere, the Premeir League side have been delving deep in the transfer market for midfield reinforcements due to Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure to PSG and Jordan Henderson’s fitness remains a concern.
Although plenty of midfielders have been linked with a move to Anfield, Saul looks a great option to fill the void left by Wijnaldum. The Los Rojiblancos ace is known for his box-to-box ability, and he has also been linked to Bayern Munich and Manchester City during last few weeks.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly prioritising a move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans. However, his valuation could prove to be a stumbling block in his transfer.
