Newcastle hold positive talks with Paulo Fonseca to replace Steve Bruce

Paulo Fonseca-AS Roma

Newcastle United parted ways with Steve Bruce earlier this week and they are currently looking for a quality replacement.

According to Daily Mail, the Premier League side have held talks with the former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca regarding the vacant managerial position.

Apparently former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is also under consideration by the new owners.

Fonseca was close to taking over at Tottenham Hotspur earlier on in the summer but club director Fabio Paratici opted for a manager with a more defensive approach.

The report from Daily Mail claims that the Portuguese manager has held talks with the members of the club hierarchy on Wednesday afternoon and the talks were reportedly positive.

It will be interesting to see if Newcastle end up appointing the former Roma manager as a replacement for Steve Bruce.

It is no surprise that the Magpies have decided to part ways with Bruce this season especially after the kind of start Newcastle have made to the Premier League.

The Magpies are in desperate need of a revival and the fans will be hoping that the new manager can come in and make an immediate impact.

Newcastle are in serious danger of going down this season if they do not turn their form around quickly.

The last thing the new owners need is for the club to be demoted to the Championship.

It will be interesting to see if the new owners are willing to back any incoming manager with sufficient funds during the January transfer window.

It is evident that Newcastle United will have to strengthen their squad and they need to bring in a couple of quality players if they want to finish the season strongly.
