The Partenopei have defeated Genoa at Stadio San Paolo, with Hirving Lozano scoring a brace.
Napoli have thrashed Genoa 6-0 at home in what looked like a one-sided game.
Partenopei entered the game with a huge advantage following their win against Parma last week. Genoa was also no different because of the 4-1 win they registered against Crotone
However, Napoli proved too much for the visitors, who crumbled eventually to the hosts’ attacking display.
Hirving Lozano opened the account before Peter Zielinski doubled the lead at the brink of the half-time.
Dries Mertens, Elmas, Matteo Politano found the scoresheet in the second half as Napoli rolled past the hapless Genoa.
Mertens stood out as he also registered two assists to his name. The Belgian forward was also instrumental behind Napoli’s win against Parma.
Victor Osimhen, who made his debut last week, couldn’t find his first goal for the team although he provided an assist to Zielinski’s strike.
The win would be a statement to defending Serie A champions Juventus, who will be Napoli’s next opponents.
Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso offered his thoughts on the win, while not failing to praise Mexican winger Lozano.
Gattuso said, “The result doesn’t tell the whole story – we did create a lot but we also came under pressure a bit in the first period.” “We need to look to improve in training and to find the right balance. Lozano is showing himself to be an important player for us.”
