Newcastle United contact Arsenal regarding a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-Arsenal

Newcastle United are hoping to improve their attacking options during the January transfer window, and the magpies have reportedly contacted Arsenal regarding a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Apparently, Newcastle want to sign the player on loan for the remainder of the season and then make the move permanent for a fee of around £20 million in the summer.

The 32-year-old has not been at his best for Arsenal this season, and he has been linked with a move away from the London club. Aubameyang was recently stripped of the club captaincy due to some disciplinary issues as well.

It seems that the 32-year-old’s days at Arsenal are numbered, and it will be interesting to see if the Gunners decide to cash in on him this month.

Newcastle are overly reliant on Callum Wilson for goals, and bringing in another experienced striker could certainly improve them in the final third.

However, Aubameyang will have to regain his form and sharpness.

There is no doubt that the 32-year-old is one of the best strikers in the Premier League when he is on form, but he has not been at his best for a while now, and his signing could be seen as a bit of a gamble for Newcastle.

Furthermore, Aubameyang is unlikely to get any better at 32, and Newcastle are better off investing in a younger striker.

The report from Mirror claims that the 32-year-old might not play for Arsenal again this season.

In that case, it would be wise of Arsenal to cash in on him and get his wages off their books.

Newcastle are currently fighting for survival in the Premier League, and they have been linked with a number of players over the last few days.

The magpies are armed with a significant transfer warchest after their takeover. It will be interesting to see if they can bring in the necessary reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
