Newcastle United have been linked to the move for the Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.
The youngster has made quite a name for himself with his explosive performances in the Champions League over the past year, and the likes of Atletico Madrid and Manchester City are thought to be keen on securing his services as well.
Nunez has a release clause of around £100 million, but Benfica are prepared to cash in on him for half of that as per Inews.
The Premier League side have been quoted a fee of around £50 million for the Benfica forward. It will be interesting to see if Newcastle are willing to cough up the money and secure his signature this month.
The magpies need to bring in a quality striker in order to beat the drop this season, and Nunez could prove to be an excellent long term acquisition for them.
The Benfica star has the potential to develop into a top-class forward in the future, and he should be able to justify the £50 million outlay in the future.
The likes of Manchester City and Atletico Madrid are undoubtedly better options for the player. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle can convince the striker to move to St James’s park instead.
Manchester City will be able to offer the player regular Champions League football, and they have the financial muscle to pull off the transfer as well.
Newcastle will have to come forward with a lucrative offer in order to secure the Benfica forward’s services, and it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds over the next few weeks.
