Bent predicts massive clear-out

Newcastle United could be set for a major overhaul after their multi-million-pound takeover and former Premier League footballer Darren Bent believes that only the likes of Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin are safe from a mass clear out.

It wouldn’t be surprising if the new owners decided to get rid of the fringe players and bring in quality replacements over the coming months.

The Newcastle squad is currently riddled with mediocre players and they are in need of a major exodus.

The likes of Wilson and Saint-Maximin have been exceptional since moving to the club and it is no surprise that Bent has chosen them as players who have a future at the club.

“The two players who will be at ease are Callum Wilson and Saint-Maximin,” he told talkSPORT.

“They would probably be the last to go but everyone else [should be worried].

“You look at their place in the league table, how could the players in a team that is second from bottom think they’re alright?

“I don’t think there’s a rush with the goalkeepers [Karl] Darlow and [Martin] Dubravka, but the rest of the team won’t be thinking ‘I think I’m alright with the team second from bottom.”

Newcastle keen on Fekir

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have been linked with a move for the Real Betis attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir.

The French international midfielder was linked with a move to Liverpool before his transfer to the Spanish club and it will be interesting to see if the magpies can bring him to the Premier League this time around.

According to reports via Daily Express, the attacking midfielder has a contract with Real Betis until the summer of 2023 and the magpies are determined to lure him to Tyneside by presenting him with their exciting long term vision of winning major trophies.

The Premier League side could use creativity and goals from the midfield and Fekir would be a superb addition. The Frenchman is excellent with set-pieces as well.
