Norwich City reach agreement with Dean Smith regarding managerial vacancy

Dean Smith-Aston Villa

Aston Villa sacked Dean Smith after a disappointing start to the Premier League season and the 50-year-old manager is now set to take over at Norwich City.

Steven Gerrard has been appointed as his replacement at Villa Park.

According to The Athletic, the newly-promoted side have reached a verbal agreement with the former Villa manager and Craig Shakespeare will also join the club as Smith’s assistant.

Norwich are currently in the relegation battle and they find themselves at the bottom of the table with just five points from 11 league games. They will be desperate to beat the drop this season and preserve their status as a Premier League club.

It will be interesting to see if Dean Smith can turn things around quickly and help Norwich climb up the table with a few good results in the coming weeks.

Daniel Farke was sacked from his role last weekend after Norwich’s first Premier League win of the season against Brentford.

Smith has done an exceptional job to get Aston Villa promoted to the Premier League and he kept the Villans competitive in the top flight for two seasons as well.

The 50-year-old showed his pedigree with Aston Villa and he will be desperate to prove himself at Carrow Road now.

However, Dean Smith had considerable financial backing at Aston Villa and he will have to operate with far more limited resources at Norwich City.

It will be interesting to see if he can take those challenges on board and deliver the results for the Canaries this season.
