Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez has been linked with a move away from Etihad this summer.

The Algerian is undoubtedly one of the 1best attacking players in the Premier League, and the defending champions want to hold on to him for the near future.

According to the latest reports from Footmercato, Manchester City have offered the player a short extension, and there is optimism that the two parties could come to an agreement soon.

Mahrez was one of the best players at Manchester City last season, and he’s likely to be a key player for the Premier League giants in the coming seasons as well. The 31-year-old winger scored 24 goals and picked up nine assists across all competitions.

The Algerian is at the peak of his powers right now, and Manchester City cannot afford to lose him during his best years.

Apparently, the player could renew his contract for another season, and that would certainly come as a major boost for Manchester City and their fans.

The Premier League champions have quality left-sided wide players like Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish. However, they lack a quality right-sided winger, and Mahrez’s departure would force the Premier League giants to enter the market for a top-class attacker.

The city have already spent a lot of money on the likes of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez. Furthermore, they are thought to be closing in on a deal to sign the Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

In these circumstances, splashing out on another attacker could be difficult for the Premier League champions, and therefore keeping Mahrez at the club should be their top priority.

Furthermore, the Algerian is well settled in the Premier League, and there is no guarantee that a new signing will be able to contribute at a similar level next season.
