The former Italian legend has claimed that Ronaldo was unhappy with his criticism.

Former Italian footballer Antonio Cassano had previously criticised Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo on a few occasions.

Cassano labelled Ronaldo as selfish during his time at Juventus, claiming that he doesn’t play for the team.

Recently, the Italian giants further created fuss by claiming that the Portuguese ace doesn’t belong to the top five greatest footballers of all time.

Cassano has now revealed that Ronaldo had been left unhappy with the criticism and demanded respect through text messages.

The former Inter Milan star said (h/t Sport Bible): “Ronaldo wrote me messages.

“Cristiano Ronaldo, telling me that I need to have respect for him because of the trophies he’s won and the goals he’s scored.

“I’m not afraid to tell the truth, I’ll face anyone; from the Pope to the last on this earth.”

Cassano went on to claim that Ronaldo got his number with the help of former Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

The Italian, as expected, didn’t hold back once again, as he asked Ronaldo to look up to his rival Lionel Messi and learn to be humble.

He added: “I called Buffon and he confirmed that he gave my number to the press officer, who turned it over to Ronaldo so he could tell me he’s scored 750 goals and I only got 150.

“To him, I’d just say: dear Cristiano, you have everything. Be calm and relaxed. Take your example from Messi, he doesn’t give a damn about anything or anyone.

“He sent me a message, honestly it’s the truth. Gigi Buffon knows it well, Gigi laughed about it. Chiellini knows too.”

“It made me angry: what are you doing? What is your problem?”

The 36-year-old finished sixth in the Ballon d’Or rankings while his long-time rival Messi went on to win the prestigious award for a record seventh time.
